Chapter Twenty
Liam
âThis is your last chance to back out. Any final words before youâre officially a married man?â Liam teased as he walked into Barrettâs bedroom, where his brother was getting ready for his wedding.
âI canât wait.â Barrettâs smile was so big it looked goofy on his face. âThereâs nothing that could keep me from marrying my beautiful bride. If anything, Iâm worried about her backing out. I donât know how I got so lucky.â
Liam snorted. âWould you believe she actually said the same thing to me this morning when I warned her it was her final opportunity to back out?â
âReally?â Barrett looked at him with a starry-eyed expression.
âYeah, so youâd better hurry up before she discovers how much of a nincompoop you are.â He pulled Barrett into a headlock, and the two wrestled for a moment, like they were children again. Barrett tousled Liamâs hair when they were done, and Liam smiled at his older brother. âIâm happy you found each other. Jules is perfect for you.â
Barrett took off his shirt and put on a white button-up. âShe really is. Now we have to find the perfect girl for youâunless you already know who it is.â He waggled his eyebrows.
I know who my heart would choose if I allowed it to make the decision. But I donât know who my headâmy logicâwill allow me to choose in the end.
âThat pause says it all.â Barrettâs eyes widened. âTalk. Whoâs the perfect girl for you?â
âItâs your big day. We can talk about my love life after you get back from your honeymoon.â Liam would avoid his brotherâs question like a matador side-stepping a bull.
Barrett looked at him for a moment before he continued putting on his white ceremonial suit. âFine, but Iâm not going to forget this conversation.â A sly smile pulled at his lips. âWell, I might forget it on my honeymoon because I will have plenty of other things on my mind then.â He winked at Liam. âBut when I get back, I will immediately be coming to you for the details regarding who has caught The Royal Heartbreakerâs fancy.â
âIâll see you out there.â He started walking toward the door when he suddenly remembered what heâd brought for his brother. âOh, I almost forgot.â Liam reached into his coat pocket and pulled out the cufflinks Barrett had given him with his parentsâ handwritten âI love youâ on them. âI wanted you to borrow these for the day. To have Mom and Dad close to you.â
Liam reached out for a handshake, but Barrett pulled him in for a hug with tears in his eyes.
âThank you.â When Barrett let go, his dopey, lovesick smile had returned.
Liam slipped out of the room and had his driver, Dean, take him to the large chapel where the wedding would be held. He braced himself before he entered the building. Inside, he would join the nine women still remaining in the competition. And he was trying not to freak out that he would be celebrating his own wedding day with one of them before he knew it.
